Diwali Spiritual Care Colouring Card
This A5 reflective colouring card is designed to provide spiritual care to people celebrating Diwali and Bandi Chhor.
It can be used purely for colouring, a calm practise which has been shown to help us in all sorts of ways. However, it can be used as a spiritual care activity, helping them make vital connections with things and people who bring light in their life as well as considering the ways they bring light to others.
The instructions are on the back which reads:
One way we can celebrate even when life is hard, is by remembering things and people who bring light into our lives.
What or who brings light into your life?
Who do you bring light to? Write them here:
[space to write]
Colour each flame above a different colour. Use those four colours to colour the picture on the other side of this card. Let each colour remind you of the people or things which bring light into your life.
I wonder how many lights you will see today. Let them remind you of the light you receive from and give to others.
The postcard is sturdy making it easy to colour even without a hard surface to lean on.
We have used this at Birmingham Children's Hospital with children and families, both those of the Sikh and Hindu faith, and others wanting to join celebrations.
The feedback we've had shows that this simple activity provides a way to celebrate and provide spiritual care, helping them feel connected to things and people who bring them light, as well as leaving them with a physical reminder of their reflection.
