This pack contains everything you need to have Fun with Shakespeare, in particular with his play: The Comedy of Errors.

It's for you if:

  • you hated Shakespeare at school
  • you've tried doing Shakespeare with your children and it's been a disaster
  • you don't know where to start

I've been exploring Shakespeare's plays with my children since they were 5 and 7 years old, and over the last five years, with a group of home educating families. We always book a performance and then explore the play over about six to eight sessions before we go to see it.

The sessions are light, fun but give the children a good feeling of the play, the characters, the themes and even some of the lines in the play.

In this 45 page pack, I have given you everything you need to get to know The Comedy or Errors, whether you have 15 minutes, 45 minutes or are looking to explore it for a few weeks.

Inside you will find:

  • all your preparation done for you including links to help you book tickets, watch, read and listen to the summaries starting from a few minutes to the whole play
  • four fun activities which you can use to explore the whole play including a game, a way of re-telling and getting into the play, a simple and super-fun effective way to learn a quote and a series of ways to play with the play
  • top tips for seeing the performance
  • four printables including: True or false Shakespeare quiz, a quote for your wall, a script for your re-telling, and Comedy bingo

It's everything you need to either dip into the play or deep dive. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have!

Victoria

PS The extra file is a bonus for you - a shorter story script for you to use in your first time exploring the play together.

So helpful!

Loved the summary of the play (the Whoosh)—enables you to understand the story as well as get the important quotes. Works great with multiple children. Very adaptable. You can also take what is provided and do your own thing too. For example, with the bingo sheet, I made a game up of guessing “who said what”? using the quotes and cute cartoons provided. Victoria has put so much work into this and it’s so helpful to use all the different ‘ingredients’ she includes. You can pick and choose or use the whole thing. Either way your children will come away understanding the play and have some important quotes stored away in their minds. Thank you Victoria!
