Always in our hearts bereavement reflective colouring

This A5 reflective colouring card is designed for the spiritual care of bereaved people of all ages.

It can be used purely for colouring, a calm practise which has been shown to help people. However, it can be used as a spiritual care activity, helping the bereavement person make vital connections with the person who has died and their own support system.

The instructions are on the back which read:

1. Choose a colour to represent the person you love who has died. Colour the central heart on each leaf with this colour.
2. Think about your love and care for the person. Choose a colour to represent you and your love. Use this colour on the next biggest heart on the leaf.
3. Think of people who love and care for you. Choose a colour to represent them and use it to colour the largest heart on each leaf.
4. See how many shades of this last colour you can find today. Let it remind you that you are loved and cared for.

The postcard is sturdy making it easy to colour even without a hard surface to lean on.

We have used this a lot at Birmingham Children's Hospital memorial events with families whose children have died. The feedback we've had shows that this simple activity provides spiritual care for bereaved families, helping them feel connected, and giving them something to take away as a 'new memory' of their child or sibling.
